The Influence of Place Identity on Tourists' Revisit Intention to Star-Rated Hotels in Batam City

Batam is the biggest contributor for the number of tourists in the Riau Islands and is a potential to be the main entry point for tourism, especially in acomodations such as hotels. The purpose of this study is to aim and analyze the influence of infrastructure, atmosphere, and cultural environments on place identity towards revisit intention of tourists at star-rated hotels in Batam City. A questionnaire is used to collect data from guests of star-rated hotels in Batam, and analyzed using quantitative methods with path analysis techniques that amounts to 200 respondents. Results shows that the infrastructure, atmosphere, and cultural environments have a significant effect on the formation of place identity. Place identity is proven to mediate the influence of infrastructure, atmosphere, and cultural environment on revisit intention. The outcome of this study is to highlight the importance of star-rated hotels in integrating identity elements in order to increase guests’ revisit intentions. The limitation of this study lies in the scope of variables which only includes infrastructure, atmosphere and cultural environment, so the results cannot be generalized with other factors that might influence place identity.
